A Perceived Balance

A Perceived Balance presents a conscious representation of my unconscious Agency and Urgency coexisting as a threshold. Constructed from wood, a material that must be handled with purpose and intention, reflects the delicacy and balance of the moment where I, Agency, and Urgency align. With tree branches representing Agency, their frozen piece of life showcases the deliberate and natural pattern of its growth. With Urgency in the form of disassembled wood pallets, their manufactured nature is shown through hastily assembled figures oriented in any way to reach the desired moment.

This threshold is situated on the intersection of two axes that lead to cemented barriers that can’t consciously be crossed. They support Agency and Urgency just as my body does, allowing them to have the chance to exist, bicker, and align. And here I am at the center of it all, remaining grounded. My perspective of Agency and Urgency is no more conscious than the bricks that make this wall and this floor. I see no more than they see. But I feel exactly what they do. Ultimately, everything has to be made with both Agency and Urgency; otherwise, the barriers that always arise can’t be pulled open to keep Agency and Urgency intact.

As I’m pointed to the sky, my inability to control is at the forefront of my mind. Relinquishing control lets me feel as though I can stay here forever.
