Build your own Binkchorst (BYOB) began by asking how small-scaled DIY design can empower locals to shape public space in a transforming neighbourhood. Through a methodology centred on children’s play, the project reveals how imagination and curiosity effectively support a playful appropriation of the urban environment. The final design is a set of polyvalent pieces that can be combined in nearly infinite combinations, opening a “void of possibility” that invites people to linger and interact with public space.
Build Your Own Binckhorst uses the neighbourhood’s transitional period as an opportunity to invite local appropriation through a small-scale, DIY design.
